For the past three years, MicroTest has collaborated with other national organizations to create a comprehensive database on community development financial institutions (CDFIs). The goal of this project "is to ensure access to and use of data to improve practice and attract resources to the CDFI field." In 2002, the CDP collected data on the FY2001 activity of 512 CDFIs, a majority of the approximately 800 CDFIs nationwide. This is the largest database on the CDFI field. The CDP intends to survey more than 500 CDFIs in 2003 on their FY2002 activities and financial position. If successful, this effort will yield a database that includes three years of data on the industry, permitting the beginning of some trend analysis and representing an unprecedented learning opportunity for this industry.
